Thank you! I appreciate it! This morning while I was watching them eat, there seemed to be real pretty shades of green and then purple too with the blue...depending on how the bright morning sun light was hitting them.....real neat!

I'm anxious to see how many of each gender I end up with! I'll post a another post of a few pics from shipping box to present. I'm learning a lot and am having a ton of fun with them!!!

Guess she taking lessons from my Guineas. Found the nest tonight with 2 eggs in it. Last year she layed same fenceline but about 10 feet away. I was hopin that she would keep em in the coop for me. But since they been mating I guess she thinks theres a reason to hide them somewhere else.
Can I collect the eggs and leave some like other birds? And keep her laying there?

I REALLY don't want to pen them, although might have to pen rouens or buffs the drake is extra rough to the young (2-3 month old) buff pair I have.
Trying to get a flock of 1/2 dz or more of each if I can. W/O paying $5+ for a day old. The prices kill me around spring hatch season.  And generally around here its "Hatchery Choice" ducklings. SO you might get what you want, might not.

You can collect the eggs but I'd do it when she is off it to go eat and stuff. Whether or not she will continue to set is up to her. But if you catch her in the morning it should help. Penning her is up to you but it would guarantee the drakes leave her alone and that she's safe and sound by herself. Again its totally up to you though.

Edited to fix my bad spelling.

how do u know if there a male or female??

The quickest way to tell is by their quack as it develops faster then their color change. If they make a loud quack its a female. If its more raspy then its a male. The males kinda sound like they have a sore throat.

Last year my Rouen (called Gertrude) learned to fly. I would have fun racing the ducks to the coop while she zipped past my head (and beat me to the chicken coop.) This year she seems to have lost interest in flying though. :(

Wow never heard of a Rouen flying before. Is it a purebred? If so that's way cool but also explains why she would stop. Maybe she's just to heavy now.

That's great I'm glad your enjoying them. Oh yes there definitely is a few colors in them feathers, I see purple the most but its just the sun and the way they are standing and walking around.

I missed 1 somewhere yesterday. There were 4 eggs in the nest today, took 2 left 2. See if this works. Gonna try every other day and see if she keeps usin the nest. I'll let her hatch some later if she wants to. Just want to try a batch myself.
Anyone know what a Rouen/Buff might look like? Our buff drake is missing atm and not sure but might of been my Shi-Tzu, he killed 1 awhile back. Any pics of the rouen/buff cross would be apprecited.

I don't know... I got her from Murray McMurray, they didn't say anything about it either way. But then they show a painting of Rouens with their crops hanging down to the ground, probably 'cause they're supposed to be meat ducks. At least I think, they don't do a very good job of it

Update! Found male Buff.. after found the pile of feathers. He's alive just a few less feathers and quite shakey. I gotta pen this pair for awhile between the dog and the rouen drake he's been beat on daily no matter how much I tried to keep him protected. Hoping they'll get some size and I can let them back out with others.

Well if it came from a hatchery and they didn't specify if it was a cross then it isn't. Yes they can be used as a meat duck. Lol maybe it comes with age.

I'm glad he's alive and doing well. Yes a little bit of pen time will do him good.
