I am new to ducks. I have 3 Rouens about 8 weeks old. When and how can I begin to tell which are Drakes and which are females? I really enjoy the ducks. I clean the pool and replace tha water every afternoon. The ducks really get excited and they stand around waiting for the fresh water and the begin playing when I finish. The try to eat from the bottom. Is there any foor I can put in there?
They are rouens, but how old are they? I'm just wondering as they have some white on the tips of their wings which is how boys start to feather out. Although one of my girls has a Lil bit of white like that too. I know she's a girl though. Kiddie pools work great for ducks. I started out with a kiddie pool but with 19 ducks I decided to upgrade to something bigger and deeper. I now use the pool that's in my avatar. Its one of them pools for kids with the sea creatures on the outside. It holds 552 gallons roughly but its a pain to clean I will admit. I'm going to install a drain system in it though so I can just pull a plug and not have worry about it too much. The best drake to duck ratio is like 1:3-4. Drakes are fine with 3 to 4 females it helps keep them busy and not overbreed 1 or 2 girls. However, drakes always have a favorite though.
WOW!! I was thinking once or twice a week!! lolI'd voice sex them then as they could be males. It all depends. I had 6 Pekins with a kiddie pool and I probably emptied it about 3 times a day. But that's because I can't stand it being messy. You could probably get away with once in the morning and once in the evening though.
