Rouen Duck thread

Hello ducky parents!
We are looking at purchasing a house on just under an acre in CT. It has a backyard stream at the bottom... Can I finally keep a couple of Rouens as pets? I used to have Mallards in UK, it was forever ago, I am in love with the ducklings - see profile photo!

Any advice welcome.

If it were me, I would not want my ducks in a stream. Too big a chance of them getting swept away, deciding to follow the stream, or a predator coming after them.

I would, however, get the ducks! Just build them a secure infrastructure, and then enjoy them!

I Disagree, Ducks will be fine in a stream if There are not a lot of predators in the area. And if there are predators just keep a very watchful eye on them. Also good luck and have fun!!

i agree with Amiga to big of a risk. If they do go to the stream i recommend some supervision

Even common neighborhood raccoons can spell disaster for these birds. That would likely end very poorly (and sadly) for you and the ducks.

What age should a drake definitely have his curl? Or start getting it? Of my 4 rouens only one has the rasp, and now he has his drake curl, I'm really hoping itsbthebonlyvdrake of my rouens >.< cause I know I already have two drakes I have to get rid of.

There isn't any definite time period. It varies. The soonest I've heard was 8 weeks, I believe and I've heard as late as 14 weeks.

I was here about a month ago asking about the possibility of my Rouen going broody. Well, she finally made up her mind!!

Aw, she's adorable! Is she actually on eggs? One of the reasons I chose Rouens (I have two) was because they aren't as likely to go broody. LOL...guess someone should have told your Rouen that.
