I have just started with Rouen ducks. We got six ducklings in April. All were doing fine. Growing well and we had determined that we had three drakes and three hens. A week ago, something attacked the ducks and got all of them except one. She managed to get up under our deck. We loved having all of the ducks, watching them, seeing them change and they were really smart. We are wanting to get some more to add back to the one we have. We have decided to keep them in the pen, we had when they were little, over night for protection and only let them out during the daytime for roaming. We have grandkids that enjoy watching the ducks, feeding them and watching the ducks splashing around in their pool. We are retired and lived on a farm. We have a big area for the ducks, but want to make sure they are safe. If anyone has suggestions on safety for ducks, we welcome that information. If anyone has suggestions on how to introduce ducklings to our young hen, please let me know. Thanks and I look forward to being a part of this group.

First off, :welcome ! Sorry about hearing what happened with your Rouens. I had originally purchased 6 of them, but only one female remains; I mainly have Pekins in my flock. I haven't had any issues introducing baby ducklings to the older ones, but perhaps that's luck.

I currently have a coop, made out of pallet wood, within a 10'x20' run, then a 60'x40' cattle fencing around my entire coop area. When I first got ducks, and they only had the coop and run, a coyote was able to bite a good chunk of one of my drake's chest. Fortunately, I was able to nurse it back to good health and he's become the protective father of the flock. That's when I decided to put up the perimeter fencing around my duck and chicken coops (currently have 4 individual coops).

So sorry about your losses.
I have 6 foot chain-link that I attached poultry fencing, too, so the ducks don’t stick their head out the holes., but I know things can still dig under or climb over so I have very secure shed that I converted into the duck house by adding a lot of window windows, covered with two layers of hardware cloth for sunset to sunrise time. I also have a lot of obstacles in the duck yard, so Hawks can’t swoop down in. Such as bushes tables, trees, chairs, umbrellas, children’s playhouses, and slides etc.
if you get more ducks, which you should, the ratio best is that each drake has 3-5 hens.
