I live on about 2 fenced acres and was wanting to get some ducks. I have geese and chickens and was thinking about buying some ducks but do not know what to go with. I like mallards but i am scared that they will fly away. I had one duck before that grew well with my geese and never flew away but will this also be the case when i have 8 or more ducks? Will they all stick around or fly away? I will have them growing up with the geese since the goslings are no more than a few weeks old.

I like Mallards. I guess my thoughts are if you want something that looks like a Mallard, get the real thing, not a Rouen.

Anyway, you'll just need to clip their wings, which is no big deal whatsoever. You just clip the primary flight feathers on one side.

Rouens have more intense coloring than mallards...and I really like the no flying part

Of course...for some strange reason I am a bit biased towards rouens...

There are 2 different types of Rouens. The commecial/hatchery bred rouens look just like a very large mallard. The exhibition rouens have deep keels that drag on the ground and are much larger.
