One of our ducks has rough and raw skin on her back. Normally it's covered by her wings. Any idea what is causing this? We didn't see any mites or anything. This wouldn't be from the boys being too rough with her would it?

My muscovies look like that under their wings right now because they are pulling each other's wing feathers out and sometimes they miss the wing feather and bite that area under the wing instead, injuring it. Also, as the pin feathers are growing back in, they seem to be further irritating the area under the wing. You asked if your drakes could be doing this...I would say it is a definite possibility. She may have a secondary bacterial infection, but it's hard to tell from the photos. You can use colloidal silver spray (they make a big spray bottle for pets and you can find it on Amazon) on the irritated area to help with infection. Make sure she has access to fresh water to bathe in every day. Hope she gets better soon!
