I don't know what kind of answers I am looking for.

My Crested Polish rooster is basically raping my hens. I have a Welsummer (we think) and he is a little rough in my opinion but while the hens will try to slip away from him, they RUN from the Crested Polish. He does not seem protective of the hens nor does it seem that he finds them nesting spots in the yard.

About 7-8 weeks ago I bought some chicks, 3 of which were Crested Polish and one seems to be a little cockerel. I posted pictures and the consensus is that he's a boy and my Crested Polish rooster, chases him which to my thinking reinforces that he is a male. I think my CP would kill the young Crested Polish cockerel if it would stand up to him.

So with the Welsummer and the young Crested Polish I don't need the adult CP. I don't know if I should lock him up or rehome him or eat him. He's kind of skinny. Also, these two adult roosters were around last year when the rooster in my avatar used to beat the snot out of me and I'm kind of afraid to change my CP for the Welsummer incase his personality changes when he rules the roost. I'm afraid that if I do something with my CP that the Welsummer could change toward the hens too.

I don't really want to kill him or rehome him but I don't know if chicken jail would work. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

He won't be happy in jail and you probably don't need 3 so I would probably eat him. I've eaten a few polish cockerels. They're thin but taste just like chicken.

It's not just the three, I have many up and coming. I hatched 22 eggs in early May, the same time I bought the 8 that the 3 Crested chicks came with. I know several of them are cockerels but I haven't separated them out to count them. Some of these chicks were fathered by my adult and I am anxiously awaiting to see what they will look like as they grow older.

I didn't plan on leaving him in chicken jail but will the Welsummer step up and take over as boss if I have Elvis locked up? Even if I try off and on for a while? Will the Welsummer fight to keep his place or will he become submissive again? I don't want them fighting but I could see that happening when I let Elvis out of jail and wants his place back. Actually, that could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

I just am not seeing much else I can do with him but to jail him or eat him. He is my first Crested and while I am not particularly fond of him, I must have some kind of attachment to him because I feel so resistant to kill him.

Today, I found what looks like a bloody spot on the back of my younger Crested roos head. I hate, really hate to do it but I think Elvis is going to have to go. I'm not sure which way, but I can't have him giving the younger cockerels brain damage.

The unfortunate thing about getting straight run or hatching eggs is having to deal with the roosters. You can eat them, sell them and be okay if they went to someone who plans to eat them.

Not sure if this will get me flamed but polish are one of the spazziest breeds. I like their looks but was so sick of the roosters being so wild and crowing so much I got rid of all.

You will just have to take chances with the welsummer rooster. Don't worry or be afraid. Be strong and declare to yourself that ANY rooster that goes after you or any one WILL become dinner. No excuses or second chances.

LOL I haven't found him to be spazzy but he is generation on top of generation on top of generation of hatchery chicks and I'm sure he doesn't know how to behave like a proper rooster. Even my Welsummer doesn't behave like a proper rooster, just better than Elvis. I am hoping that year after next my chickens will behave more like chickens should because I will have raised most of them through 2 generations. From what I have read it sounds like they rediscover how to behave like chickens when they have some freedoms and mingling together.

Sounds like good advice. I have a young polish roo and he is an idiot! Not sure how its going to turn out for him yet.
