Round Baby Chick

I have three 5-week old chicks. From what I was told there are two orpingtons and the little brown one is an auracana (spelling?). One of the orpingtons is quite round. She’s not lazy, they walk around the yard together all day. They are not over eating. Is she just a round baby?

Could it be an Americana (Easter egger)? She doesn't have Tufts like an Araucana should : ) it looks like she doesn't feel well, has she been as active as the other chicks? Anything weird with poop?

Yes! She very well could be. The guy I got them from said Americana or Araucana I just couldn’t remember.

And no weird poops and she’s just as active as her siblings. She’s super chill and still hangs out with their mom. She’s just always this little puff ball unless she extends her head out, then she looks thinner

She's just a fat little round baby is all! Her name should be Ball... because she's a bouncy little ball with pin legs❤❤

I'm no breed standard expert, but IIRC roundness is characteristic of a good Orpington.

People who show Orpingtons should correct me if I misremembered.

She seems normal. My flock consists of 10 buff Orpington pullets and several were like that at that age. They are a large, fluffy, round breed. Enjoy them, most of mine are cuddles, and very sweet birds

Could depend on the breeder and their lines. I have a bunch of Orpingtons and they are all VERY round and fluffy. The breeder I got them from has English Orpingtons and his adult birds look like basketballs Very unlike the adult Orpingtons I see in backyards in my neighborhood. I like my round ones better. I think they are cuter

My BO has always been a round fluff ball and still is.

To me she seems like a good English Orpington as opposed to hatchery quality. I’ve had both and she looks great to me!
