Hello All,

I know I asked this yesterday in a post buried with questions so I will ask again.

Has anyone used larger (at least 10 inches in diameter) for nest boxes? I am thinking the five gallon ice cream buckets for easy clean out, or bigger if suggested.

Thank you

Lazarus

I use 5 gallon buckets I think the ice cream buckets would be to small for regular size chickens. I just use and hand broom and sweep them out

Sorry (clarification) the 5 gallon ice cream buckets that you would see in the ice cream parlour when they serve you up a cone.
they have a ten inch diameter.

I was thinking about those buckets at Lowe's with the lids cut down to make the front of the next box could work but one of our chick (a Marans) is already the size of an average full grown chicken at 10(ish) weeks old so I don't think she is going to fit!

I saw a coop here where someone used a square kitty litter bucket cut in half (lengthwise) to line two nest boxes. Easy to clean and taller than a bucket so I might go with that.
