Today is Day 17 for the first batch of quail eggs. I've tried to do everything perfectly but I'm afraid nothing is going to hatch!

These are coturnix so they should start tomorrow right?

They can hatch days 16-18 and can even take a little longer if the temps were running low. Good luck!

I believe that the harder you try, the more you goof yourself up! When I TRIED with ducks, I got 5 of 11 eggs. When I didn't try, 8 of 10.

When I TRIED with quail, 50 of 75, after culling off some deformities that managed to exit the eggs. When I didn't try (and what I mean by that is I diligently turned the eggs, added water as needed to the tray, but without agonizing over specific humidity levels... checking the temp, but not like every hour in a panic...) 70 of 75... which was really just entirely too many anyways!

Relax! If it's not a good hatch this time, try again, doing what you KNOW how to do, without agonizing over it. I swear, the less I stressed, the better hatch I got.

And with the quail, seemed they all came at once! Never did see a faster, more uniform hatch out of another fowl species.

For some reason I had various sizes of eggs, more extreme size differences than that of chicken eggs of the same breeds... the smallest of which did not hatch. The largest seemed to start first. Like when I unpacked them at their arrival, one was SO small... needless to say it didn't hatch. Ebay eggs, if that makes a difference.

Don't aggervate yourself by peering into or opening the incubator every 20 minutes!

They'll come if they're in there, and if not, order some more eggs!

I just had my first hatch of quail a few days ago and i thought i would go crazy!!! They were almost 3 days late in hatching and it took them almost 4 days to hatch. From what i read everyone made it seem like they were like popcorn and would all just pop pop pop right out but ooooohhhh no not mine! I didn't have a good hatch rate at all but this was my first time and hopefully next time it will go better. I also had alot of them die. one minute they were running around and the next mnute they were laying there dead. i didn't understand that at all. so anyway good luck and just try and keep the lid closed on your bator. I think some of my problem was opening it to much. I just couldn't resist and i think, no i no that i shouldn't have done that.
so any way good luck!!

I saw pips and heard CHIRPING!!!! Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have babies!

How soon after they hatch do they need food and water? I know they need it sooner than chickens.

They can stay in the bator up to 24 hours, but 12 is better. Just be sure there are no pips (as best you can) and snatch the babies out. But be careful!! Idk what kind of bator you have, but in my LG they just hop right over the sides as soon as I take the lid off! I usually end up taking a window out and trying to get as many as I can that way

Luckily I'll only hatch maybe 6 this time and hopefully more with the second batch in the bator. Ironically they are in there with chicken eggs...don't ask..

It's an LG also!

And it happened fast...I have one completely out of the shell, and another one pipping!

hehehehe!!!!

Why can't chicks hatch out that fast?

Is it normal for them to roll on their back and not be able to get back up?

Not really, they should be able to right themselves. Anymore hatching, or still just the two?

Just the two...moved them into the brooder. They've all been in the same spot so should be happening soon. I wanted to stop having to open the bator so I went ahead and moved them. I'm using an orange juice cap to hold water so that they won't drown.

How do I tell if they're goldens or browns?
