I've been really enjoying keeping my other thread up to date with the growth of my first round of chicks, so I thought I would do the same for this second round!

Two Australorps and two Speckled Sussex have joined the family. I love my three older Australorp girlies, and I heard really good things about Speckled Sussex in terms of wanting to be cuddly lap chickens. :fl

Couple days old:

Our Australorps had great personalities and were very friendly. I'd also been interested in Speckled Sussex for the same reason as you! Super cute babies, and keep us updated on how everyone integrates.

One week old! This bunch are much more flighty than the first round. My theory is that because they are being raised in the summer kitchen instead of the house they aren't hearing me and my husband non stop all day, every day.

I'm hoping once they integrate with the rest of the flock their tameness will rub off.

Just shy of two weeks old!

Big breakthrough (for me at least) with the Specked Sussex starting to come up and take food from my hand. One even perched on my wrist for a while. The Australorps continue to be very shy.

I've opened the windows to the summer kitchen during the day for them, both for air flow and so they start hearing the sounds of the world. They are very isolated in there and every little noise from me sends them running to hide under their brooder.
