We recently purchased a new hen to go with our royal palms (this is our first year raising turkeys) I haven't been able to get her to lay yet. She was kept in a dark barn with one other hen and 7 toms. She was not supposed to have laid any yet this year. I know she is an older hen and has abot 3/4 inch spurs, but I was hoping she would lay some more. We Put her on a game bird breeder crumble in an open pen but I have yet to get any eggs from her today. I turned them out to free range around all our chicken pens and my hubby noticed we didn't get any eggs last night. Today my daughter found 2 turkey eggs between 2 of my chicken breeder pens and one is considerably larger than the other and has a slightly different texture. Is it possible that my faithful hen that always lays had a major change in the size of her eggs and the texture.. this one seemed a little slicker and less spotted, or could my older hen have laid for the first time in 2 months? Also our younger hen is also bearded... Will this trait carry on to her offspring?
