Rposter Attacks!

Your probably going to catch alot of negative remarks about what you did but I'm with you. I had a rooster that thought he would be aggressive and I got to where I carried a stick in the coop with me to feed. He stayed away from me but if I needed to defend myelf he would have gotten a good wack in the head.

He did later on push too far by attacking my grandson. I gave him permission to bet out his BB gun and defend himself. He did and we had rooster for supper.

Nice lesson for your grandson, how many BB's did it take to kill him? Our society usually strives to keep young children from torturing animals, don't want to encourage serial killers by any means. I understand roos may need to be put down, but a BB gun, come on!

She said she had to wait for it to get close enough to her to drop kick it. Doesn't sound like it was being too terribly aggressive in getting close to her. Was wondering why someone would come on BYC and admit this anyway. And odd she hasn't posted any responses.

Umm just because a rooster is running toward you doesnt mean he is attacking. Plus usally if he was charging to flog all I ever have to do is stomp the ground enough to scare him and he will realize you are larger. And if you do have to kick it. Cmon how hard did you kick it. It dont take much.

Maybe, but hopefully someone out there is learning something. Good topic for discussion.

Bad rooster threads pop up every other day here and they all go in the same direction. Someone suggests Rooster Red's methodology, someone says "make soup" and then someone else offers suggestions on how to be the alpha roo of your flock. A few people describe kicking the roos and most of them just "loft" the bird in the air on an uplifted foot.

When its all said and done, its already been said and done and can be accessed with the search feature. Rarely do you get anyone unwise enough to admit kicking a bird to death on this kind of forum, so this leads me to believe that this individual is not telling the truth. Therefore, it's not wise to give this tale any credence, nor this person any more attention than they have already garnered.

If one really wants to learn about this subject, they can search for and read the million other posts on this topic that were initiated by folks who are sincere.

I found a good way to keep my roo submissive to me.. Occasionally, I give him alittle chase, and when I catch him, I hold him firmly, in the crook of my arm, making sure his wings can't flap, and his legs can't scratch, and I give his feathers just behind his head, a few sharp tugs.. Not enough to pull any out, but just sharp enough to let him know who's boss. I also speak sternly to him.. That's about the extent of our "discussion", and when I place him back down on the ground, he hightails it out of there! Rarely do I ever have any problems with him. Now.. the dog is another story entirely, as she likes to aggravate him. She will purposely run full blast through the hens to get the rooster to give chase. Because she is shorter than my chickens, I see no harm in this. She just sees it as playtime!

Woe to her though, when that rooster DOES manage to catch her! The few times he has, she's gotten a whoopin! Sure is funny to watch! XD
