22 week old chicken has been laying for about a week. This morning she had a rubber egg, is drinking a lot. Her vent is clean but some of the lower feathers and very tip of her tail feathers are a little damp. She was fine yesterday... None of the other chickens are acting like this. I am a new backyard chicken owner. I fed her some yogurt and added ACV to the water. Is there anything else I should do?

Hi Jill,
When you say rubber egg - is it a whole intact soft shelled egg or ....? Do you have a photo of the egg and of her poop (her too if you have them)?

How is she acting - is she lethargic, isolating herself, tail down, etc. or acting normal?

Being a new layer and having an not normal egg can sometimes make them not feel too well.
I would eliminate the ACV and give her some poultry vitamins or electrolytes. I would also give her some Calcium for no more than 2 days - you can give 1/2 Caltrate or 1 Tums each day.

What do you feed including treats?
Do you provide oyster shell free choice as well?

You mention that none of the other chickens "are acting like this", but you haven't described how your new layer is acting. That's very important information.

If she's behaving as @Wyorp Rock mentioned, then she has an issue that needs treatment. If she's behaving normally, then it's likely just a new layer glitch.

I don’t have a pic of the egg. I pitched it. Sorry.
She is drinking a LOT of water. After reading different things online I checked her crop. It was full and squishy. I turned her upside down and rubbed it in the direction of her head. That evacuated the bulk of what was in there. She is drinking a lot of water again and it looks like the crop is filling up again. Is giving her some olive oil a good thing? I have read that can help clear a crop... I don’t know

She does seem a little out of sorts, a bit lethargic. I also got some Greek yogurt and sprinkled a little ground cinnamon on top of that. Oh - also added ACV to the water.

crushed oyster shells are available 24/7. The treats I give them are crushed corn, kale, oats, yogurt, broccoli, and meal worms. I have given them a bit more corn the past couple of days because we have had a cold snap. Oh - I put some cinnamon on top of the yogurt I just put out.
she has been shaking her head since I turned her upside down and rubbed her crop and she threw up

There are so many different opinions - I don’t know what to do. I think she is bound to feel better with her crop emptied. Getting bad stuff out of my stomach is always a step I. The right direction 🥴 I am unsure about the suggestion made about olive oil to help aid digestion. Before this morning she has been Laying eggs, eating and pooping fine and dandy This came up all at once. 💔😭🤷🏻‍♀️
