Today I watched my hen act like she was straining, tail down and very still. She passed this 5 inch long rubbery clear thing that appears to be encased. Help!

I think that may be a membrane from a shell-less egg or just the membrane that was passed. Do you see any segments in the thing, because I first wondered if it might be a tapeworm? I can’t see any segments though. From the tail being down and straining, I think that an egg membrane is more likely. I would give her some human calcium 1/2 tablet or 1/2 a Tums today and for a couple of days in case she is having trouble passing eggs. Do you see any yolk or albumen in her droppings?

There are no segments, not a tapeworm. Thank you! Going to separate her so I can see what her droppings look like.
