We have 5 chicks that are 10-12 weeks. A week ago I saw an eggshell on the floor of the coop and thought it may have been our laying hen that dropped it out of the nest box and it broke and thought nothing of it. This morning when I went out, there were 2 of these same shells plus the laying hen had an egg in the box that was fine.

The shells that were left are very rubbery. There was no yolk unless they had eaten it.

Is is possible that one or 2 of the chicks are laying these? If so, is it ok that they are and is there something we can do to make them real eggs when they come out?

We have been doing that. Thanks.

I guess i should have asked if it is it too early for them to be laying and that is why they are that way?

Will this continue until they are older?

another thing that I forgot to mention is that the chicks have been with the hens and helping them eat the hen food as well as their own for a while. Could the food have something to do with it?
