Ruby is unwell :(

Thank you. I ordered fish mix at http://www.fishmoxfishflex.com/, but it’s Memorial Day weekend, so probably won’t ship until Tuesday. Here is Ruby when we first went outside. Since then, she picked at some greens, enjoyed some sunshine, and sat with her tail down. She just walked into the run and put herself in the nesting box of the mini coop.

@Kathy Golla where are you in the Bay Area and do you have an avian vet? When I had a sick hen last year, she was treated extensively by Dr. Curt Nakamure at Adobe in Los Gatos. She also went to For the Birds (I forget the vet’s name, but she was great) and Dr. Saunders up the peninsula... San Mateo, I think. Last time she saw Dr. Nakamura, however, he administered a second dose of Suprelorin (?) at a cost of $330, and she died a few days later. I’m a little hesitant to rush off to him and it’s Memorial Day weekend.

Unless this hen is very lethargic and not eating at all, I think you can wait for the antibiotic to arrive.

The puddle-poop is withing the range of normal, given that poop can be more liquid during warm weather when chickens are drinking a lot or eating things with high moisture content.

If the poop continues to be wet and if it is whitish or clear, then it's not normal.

Thanks. A few of them are laying around and “chilling out” today, but I just checked and Ruby has started open mouth breathing. I think she may be starting to bloat in her abdomen, toward the back.

Oops. Just realized this never posted. Ruby has been sitting around with her tail tucked most of the day. I think I’ll try to find fish mox. Girls have been free ranging most of the day while I lay brick.

I’m an idiot. Fish Mox is banned in California. Just left an aquarium/fish store. My poor Ruby! Avian Vet is not open until Tuesday. So I’ll continue supportive care. Should I give her a baby aspirin for her pain? She stopped open mouth breathing, and did join the flock for a tuna treat when called them back into the run (to look for Fish Mox). I think I’ll pick up syringes in case I need to get something down her while bypassing the airway. She looks slightly limpy. She also could not jump up to the high roost in the run.

The videos you posted of her....she looks completely normal.
I don't see anything wrong.

I am not understand what the rush for antibiotic is here?

Where did you order the Fish Mox? Was it just a web site order or did you order from a phone rep? I've heard that no one will ship these antibiotics to any customer in California.

There are ways to deal with it. PM me.
