Run and Nesting Boxes

So, we're thinking about doing a mobile run, which we let them out in during the day. However, it wouldn't be attached to the coop, where the nesting boxes are. Would that be a problem? Would they wait until they were let into the coop to lay their egg? Would they just lay their egg on the ground? I know they like it secluded. Any advice?

They will probably just make nests outside somewhere if they can't get to the boxes when they need to.

They will find somewhere else to lay if they can't get to the next boxes when they are ready. I try to make sure they have finished laying before I let mine out so I don't have to hunt for eggs.

Would you advise letting them have access to the coop? That's an option, though the mobile run will be easier.

If you want them to lay in the coop they need access to it all day.

But....

It is easy enough to have a little nesting box that you put on the ground in the mobile run.

You could even use a cardboard box.

Yeah, we were thinking about doing that. But we've decided to make the coop mobile as well, and attach it to the run.
