Run Away Rooster

Hi all,

We brought home a new rooster and he turned out to be a sneaky guy. He managed to escape despite our best efforts and ran off into the woods. He’s seen the hens and the coop but not for very long. Assuming a predator doesn’t get him, how might we encourage him to come back into the yard? There’s nothing behind our house but woods and hills and a swamp for acres and acres. He’s a beautiful 1yr old light Brahma. Hopefully he returns!

Does he know you as the food person? Do you have a call for your birds? Maybe you could shake a container of food to try to encourage him to come back?

Sorry to hear that. Roosters will do as they please, mine do, but I have a high fence all around my property. Hope he returns to you.

Hopefully the sound of the hens will encourage him to come back.

If he survived the night I'd expect him to come back to the hens when he hears them this morning. let us know. Hope he returns.

Sorry for the delayed response, I’ve been extra busy. The rooster came back on his own mid-morning after spending the night in the woods. He was seriously considering the same sleeping spot last night but opted to stay with the gals. Wise choice.
So glad he’s settling in. We love him. He’s a great roo.
