Run &coop size

Hi. I have an old pen that measures 16'x12' with the co-op size of 12'x12' . Would like to know if this would work for 35 chickens

Coop is fine, run is about half the size you'd need at minimum unless you plan on free ranging the majority of time.

I was finding a ton of conflicting info out there so I went to the American Poultry Association- your run is 192 and you would need 280 per their chart.

Average space needed is 4 sq ft in the coop and 10 sq ft in the run (preferably more). You need less space in the coop if you live in a mild climate where the chickens can be outside every day of the year or more if the chickens will be in there for weeks due to snow (if they don’t have protected space outside).

As was mentioned coop size would meet the minimum requirements but the run is waaaay undersized.

And you better have adequate ventilation in the coop for that size/that many birds.

Most backyard poultry keepers want to avoid the factory/production sizes shown in this chart.
