Run Covering - Tell Me If I'm Stupid lol

:lau When my husband isn't doing things adequately I casually mention to my FIL that my husband is back at the chicken coop doing *insert whatever task I think he's trying to shortcut*, my FIL takes care of it. :gigNo shame in calling in the professional when necessary. ;)
Well, I broke down and lobbed the idea at "the big guy" aka Dad, so we'll see what he comes up with. I know him, he won't like the idea of the pop-up canopy so he'll probably end up building me a frame and a real roof :lau

Where do you live and how much snowfall do you typically get. A lot of places the tarp is less necessary in the winter then the summer where they need it for shade and to get out of the rain. If you get enough snow that it is impacting the chickens then you get too much to just use a tarp and PVC, or some temporary set up. Just my .02 cents.....

Illinois. So yeah, there's enough snow for long enough that they refuse to go outside. And I need my barn stall for growouts, so I need to keep the laying flock in their coop and run this year. I think a tarp would work provided it was angled so the snow slides down. Would I need a new tarp every year? Probably. Considering the cost of corrugated metal or plastic, I'm okay with that.

North, Central, or Southern Illinois?
Big difference between north and south, please add it to your profile :D

It's not so much what you use as roofing material...
....but how well you support it from underneath, that is key IMO.
A roof rake is a good investment.

I thought I had added it when I signed up, guess I'm getting my forums confused, lol! I'm North-Central. So not the absolute tundra, but plenty of snow and ice.
