Wow!! I can get a 50# bag of food grade de at the local feed mill for 15.50...might be worth it to look just a little further

I've looked for it around here at the feed mills and garden centers and no one carries it except one garden center and they want 12.99 for a 6 lb bag! So I guess I will have to settle for the $34! Would be nice to pay just 15.50! Can't find organic feed here either. I know there are several places in PA that sell it, but shipping is so high. Sometimes it is the pits that we have to settle for what is available!

But thanks!

I've been pouring over this site ever since I thought about raising chickens and found it. If I learned one thing...Food grade DE (aka fossil shell) fixes everything...well almost! I went to the Perma-Guard site (one maker of food grade DE) and they have a map and list sellers in your area. I found one fairly close, the 50 lb bags are on sale now for $23.50...don't know the regular price.

This is really the greatest site! Great people! Great info!

DE = Diatomaceous Earth - you must get FOOD GRADE type to use around your chickens. For more info on what it is used for go to PermaGuard.com (maker of one type) or wolfcreekranch.com or earthworkshealth.com or just look on this site...it's used for a large variety of things!

I rake into my dirt run agricultural lime..it won't burn their feet and cuts back on the odors..I also hang fly bags to kill the flys in 4 days I must have about 100 flys floating dead in that bag!
