It can be or it can be square or a hoop.

It's all about how much skill, time, money one has.

I think the hoop coop would be easiest, least expensive and very effective.

Hoop coops use cattle panels that are flexible and provide the main structure which is then fortified with hardware cloth and usually a tarp or two for shade and wind protection. Pretty inexpensive overall and manageable for even non-handy people.

They are very easy to build.



This is my hoop run on my smaller coop. I couldn't dig here for posts due to buried power lines.
It works very well.

Our old yard had a severe slope and we ended up building a retaining wall in order to have level ground for a Wichita style coop and run. It was a huge pain in the rear but it worked. When we shopped for our new house we had "flat land" very high up on the list of "must haves"
