Run finally done!! Chickens outside this weekend! *PICS HEAVY*

chickens will walk on sand. mine were initially wary and now love it. it doesn't get muddy like dirt (which is what i had previously). it stays cooler. they can really dig and fling it all around in a very satisfying manner. the sand works fine for dust bathing/bug purposes. they don't need pebbles to digest their food if they are only eating chicken feed. pebbles only come into play if they are eating other things too in which case you can just put out a little bowl of free choice pebbles.

your coop and run look like chicken heaven to me. good job.

Great job! We have sand in our coop and I LOVE it. So do the chickens.

Thanks!
What size pebbles should I be offering? My construction sand has some pebbles (from pea to lima bean size) but not very many. do they sell an adult chicken grit that would have the right size pebbles in it?
