Hi All,

Second post, about my coop.

I've got the building up (10x4), 6 Ameraucanas, 7 weeks old. The coop looks awesome, but I don't want to totally freerange my chickens so I want to fence in the garden box right in front of the coop. It's 12 x 12, with a weird 3x3 cutout on one side. (I'll put up pictures soon, I promise!).

Anyhow, I want to fence in the entire 12x12 box, but don't know how high to make it. If I make it over 4 feet, it will cover the awesome 3x6 window that I have on that side of the coop. If I make it 4 feet tall, I'll have to come up with some creative way to hinge the thing so I can get in and clean it.

Here is my bad MS Pain rendering of the layout (links to larger):

Here's an idea of the window overlooking the box, etc (links to larger):

Anyone want to take a shot at helping me design this run?

Thanks!

Mine is 32 inches tall (due to a hubby measurement malfunction), and I have 2 "access doors" on it, so i can reach all corners of it with a rake. I'd take some string and lay it out, and figure out how far you can reach with your tool of choice, make cleaning doors where needed. 24 inches is high enough, provided you can clean it from that height (I'm a tiny 5ft, so it's plenty for me).

Beautiful job on the coop. We have similiar designs! That roof wouldn't happen to be 4 x 8? That's what mine is to minimize cuts!
My run is 16' x 8' by about 6' high. I am still in the process of building it but wanted the height so I could comfortably get in there to clean and mingle with my girls. I also have 4 kids and a 5th on the way so I needed some room for them to get in as well.
Here is a picture of my coop.

I had my husband make it tall enough so that at least I can stand in it. I'm 5'7, and I just make it.

I like to go in the run, and hang out with the girls. I even put a little chair out there, but my son and I fight over it
