Hi i,m new to the chick game and would like some opinions on my plans I have a 5x7.coop and 10 ckicks i know the 4ft per bird rule but if there only in there roosting does it matter that much? If so since its 7 feet tall could i make it 2 levels on 1 half? also i am planning a 16x8 foot run but in half the run would be a shrub row that has a very open understory in which would give the chicks shade and a good bug supply and protection from hawks that fly around. so 3 nesting boxes 18inches off the ground and 2 roosts 30 off the floor and 1 on 2nd level? sound good ?all and any opinions welcome .Thanks PICS OF THE CHICKS SOON TO COME 2cuckoo 2EEs 4 black links

The additional level really doesn't add anything as far as requirements for housing the chickens. If you want to put an additional level just for somewhere else for them to go that would certainly be acceptable. I think you will be fine with the square footage you have. You're only 5sq. foot short for the recommended requirements for the amount of birds you have especially since you will have a nice sized run for them. Look forward to seeing the pics.
