Run possibility

We are thinking about converting half of this shed into a run. It would measure out to be 20x20. So 2 walls would be mostly wood and the other two would be hardware cloth framed walls. Would this still be enough sunlight for the chickens? We live in south Mississippi so it’s very hot here in the summers.

I think that has very food potential. Are you talking about opening part of the back wall with hardware cloth? If so I think that would help with more light.

We originally were just gonna put up hardware cloth where it’s already open but I was worried about it being to shaded.

Does the sun ever shine directly in the open side? Are you able to free range at all?

In your climate too shady is preferable to too sunny and exposed. Maybe you could bump out a section to give them a sunny area on overcast days, but I think they'd appreciate the deep shade offered by the roof.

We were thinking about maybe putting the coop a little farther out and and giving them that area for direct sunlight.

It does earlier in the day. We would be able to free range a few times a week but we have a large predator population so not days when I would be at work.

If it were me. I would partially enclose one end (long ways so like 1/4 maybe) for a coop and put hardware clothe on the rest for air and light to come in. It seems a little to dark to me which could affect their laying, but again I'm in Florida so the weather here may be different and it's your coop so you can do what you want with it.
