run wire/fencing

What do you use for your run fencing/wire? And why?

i'm thinking of using hardware cloth to three feet and chicken wire above

what are you thinking about using?

We just used the fencing I had around my garden. I think it was called Deer Fence and it's only 4' tall. The chickens can stick their head through, so now we are going to get another type that will just around the bottom portion to make it more secure from predators sticking their arms in, or digging. We have Bird D-fence for the top. We have a couple of trees in our run so it acts as shelter and the bird fence is up over the open section so flying predators can't get at them. We tented it because I like to go into the run and stand up.

Latebloomer, that is what I was thinking. My husband called from menards and said something about welded wire? I don't know what tis is but he said its hole is about that of a chain link fence. He suggested chicken wire all around and the "welded wire" on the bottom up 24". I have some hardware cloth in my garage...id like to see how much is left and use as much of that as I can as I don't like the idea of such big holes near the bottom. But I guess ill have to see it in person...

Well I bought a dog kennel 10'x10'x6' off craigslist last night for $85 and plan on putting 1"x1/2" hardware cloth 2' up and 1' out as an apron. I was planning on a 2 or 3 foot hinged lidded run, but this just seems so much better.

My two dog kennel runs are completely wrapped with hardware cloth including the tops. The gates close firm and tight. Nothing larger than 1/2" is getting into these runs. They also have a 24" hardware cloth aprons at the base. I did this so I could put chicks in any of my runs protecting them predators including snakes and weasels. My hoop-coop is also wrapped in hardware cloth. I also have strands of hot-wire around all of my coops/runs.
