Garron paused, but didn't turn around to face her. "Piper, I said I understand. Don't worry about it." The thing about it was, Piper didn't realize that Scar overpowered Garron for miles; if they got in a fight, Garron would be scrap meat for the vultures. If he valued his life, he needed to get on Scar's good side, and that involved not being friends with Piper. The way Garron saw it, Piper was choosing Scar over him; and of course she should, because Scar was her brother, after all. But Garron couldn't help feeling more than just a little abandoned as he loped off further into the woods, his ears constantly twitching as though something was lodged in them.

Piper watched him go, her heart torn in two.
"What have you been up to, sister?" Scar's voice startled her and she crouched down in fear.
Scar stood behind her staring off into the quivering undergrowth where Garron had just disappeared but his immobile face showed no emotion or acknowledgement of Garron's presence.. "Did you finish your rabbit?"
Piper took a deep breath and smiled weakly. "Yes...I've finished eating. Ha...have you?"
Scar nodded and turned his back to her. "Yup. I'm going to hunt again. You should come with me since all you came back with was that scrawny rabbit. The alphas might think you're lazy!"
Piper scrambled after him her head ducked in embarrassment. "Oh, no. I didn't think of that Scar. Do you think you could help me? I'm not very good at hunting." she thought with a pang of sorrow of how she had said the same thing to Garron. They had made a good team, bringing down that elk by themselves and she hadn't once stumbled or lost her balance. She wished for a moment that it could be Garron beside her now, leading her off to a hunt, not Scar. But she angrily scattered those thoughts. Scar was her brother! Her brother...
"Scar do you think..." but she stopped. She was going to ask him if he didn't like Garron, but did she really want to know? It would just make her more guilty.
Scar looked at her, "Yes?"
"Um...nothing." she mumbled.
They went further into the territory, searching for prey.

After a bit Scar said, "I can help you learn to hunt, but I need to know how good you are first. Go and catch something...anything and take it back to camp. I'll watch you and assess your strengths. You won't be able to see me but I'll meet you back at the densite, okay?"
Piper nodded and raced off, hoping to prove herself.
Scar's eyes became slits of ice as he turned slowly and padded off, his nose searching for Garron's scent. He wanted to find the wolf and...clarify...what he meant by his look when they had meet. He stalked closer, he could smell Garron close.

Duke rose quickly to his feet. He heard gunshots off in the distance. (from Stonepack territory) He ducked into the den and nudged his sister's shoulder with his head. "Charlotte, wake up. We have to go. Now!"

Charlotte opened her eyes sleepily. "What is it Duke?"

"Hunters. C'mon, get up." He replied and pushed her with his head again.

Charlotte scrambled to her feet when she heard another gunshot echo through the trees. Duke laid his ears back and snarled at the sound.
