patience, grasshopper....
Ripple sighed in frustration. "Okay." He looked down the hill and could see that the elk had gathered a ways away. He headed down the hill towards the elk, going slowly. He started heading around them again.
He started to get impatient, and started to go more quickly. Watching the elk, and then his paws. He stepped on a small twig and stopped. Holding his breath. He looked up at the elk. They were still grazing, not even noticing he was there.
Ripple started walking again and made it around. He looked back at them, he was tempted to growl and make them all scatter, but he resisted. He quickly went back up the hill to Destoe. "How was that?" He asked.
Destoe smiled and said "Good. And remember what I told you when I came up to you and your mother."
"Patience." Ripple sighed. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have much of that." He smirked.
Destoe laughed and said "trust me you will now when I am disappointed."
Garron whirled around on a dime and tensed when he saw Scar at the edge of the cliff. His mind reeled; on one hand, after all Scar had done to nearly wreck Garron and Piper's lives, he could rid him of this world... Forever. But Garron knew that Piper still cared about Scar - or so he thought, anyways - and he was her only living kin. He didn't know what he should do, so he just stood there... Waiting for Scar to plummet to his death...
Scar's paws grappled for a foothold, but the mist from the waterfall made the earth soft and damp. His sharp claws racked through it to easily. For one brief moment, he caught Garron's eyes. For one heartbeat he locked stares with the one who had stolen his sister and destroyed his life. Scar's face was calm but he threw one last crazed glare of hatred.
Then everything speed up again.
Scar didn't make a sound as the earth beneath him gave way. He didn't howl or whine or beg Lupus to save him.
He closed his eyes, feeling the rush of wind and weightlessness that would be his last thrill before death. Relished his last breath of air before he smashed onto the river below...
Garron watched with wide blue-gray eyes as Scar tumbled down into the river below. It was hard to believe, and to be honest, Garron was in a bit of a state of denial. Scar... the very wolf that had nearly destroyed his, as well as Piper's life... was dead. His limbs quivered like leaves in the wind as the adrenaline wore off.
Piper?
Garron whirled around on a dime to face her. "Piper." He raced over to her as his heart began to race... was she dead? No, she isn't. Relief coursed through Garron's body when he noticed the faint rise and fall of her chest. He lifted her up off the ground by her scruff and began to take her away, back to his den in the loner lands.
Silence
And pain
LOTS of pain
Piper slowly opened her eyes and tried to move but her body refused to respond. Her side and neck were on fire, her ear's ringing as her vision blurred and darkness surrounded her. What had happened? Where was she...
Her nose picked up a familiar tantalizing scent. One she never thought she would come across again...
Garron?
I must be dead...
She sighed, with satisfaction and relief or fear, but the deep breath hurt. either way A small whimper escaped her.
Then she remembered....
Scar...had she also killed her brother as well as Garron? Had he killed her? Once again she tried to rise and failed, barely getting her head a fraction of an inch off the ground before it fell back limply. She closed her eyes again...
Garron took Piper to his den and set her down inside his nest. He rasped his tongue over her wounds, and prodded her gently with a paw. "Piper, it's me," he murmured. "If you can hear me... Wake up...."
