Nebrivo was breathing, taking heavy and ragged breaths. He had finally overcome and subdued his attacker, who lay bleeding but not dead on the ground. He turned to where Quartz was fighting. Shaken, badly injured, he wasn't sure he could help her, but he would sure try. He limped over to where they were as quickly as he could.

(Here we go, Orps.)

Atra lunged for Cedar and tore her side again. Weakened, Cedar fell backwards, onto her rump. Atra wasted no time in taking this chance, and viciously rained down on her vulnerable neck and head as she tried to end the battle once and for all. Cedar avoided getting trapped by her jaws, knowing there would be no escaping the stronger and less severely wounded wolf if she did. She backed away, jumping and slashing, until her side hit a wall of rock.
Atra had cornered her.
"Atra!" Quartz shrieked, her voice trembling with fear and fury. Her jaws slammed into the Darkpack wolf from the left. Cedar flashed her a shaky smile. It quickly vanished when Atra recovered from her shock and wrestled Quartz to the ground. Quartz snarled and snapped like a rabid wolf, but Atra ignored the blood soaking through her fur and kept kicking and slashing at the she-wolf.
Cedar growled and rushed forward to help her friend. She landed a few pretty good blows on Atra until a pair of jaws tore off some of her fur from behind. Cedar wheeled to face Moss.
The white Darkpack wolf tumbled over Cedar, throwing both she-wolves away from Atra and Quartz. Moss pinned Cedar, and in her attempts to block Moss;s snaps, Cedar lost sight of her frienda nd the rival alpha.

Quote: Killian only grunted, and stumbled a few feet backwards. His eyes shone with the desire to kill as he dove at the she-wolf, jaws agape. He hardly gave her any time to recover from her attack, and had surprising quickness for his large size.
Owl.

Quartz skillfully rolled her body out from under Atra when she removed her forepaws to kick at her. Wrapping her jaws around Atra's shoulder, Quartz tried her hardest to drag her down with her. Atra shook her off quickly and sidestepped to avoid another painful snap to the stomach.
Quartz rose, shaking, and lunged for Atra. Atra quickly spotted her weakest point: the leg where Moss had bitten her and almost shattered the bone.
Atra tried to dodge her bites, receiving many bruises and bloody scratches as she danced around Quartz. Finally, Quartz lunged forward a bit too soon, and Atra saw her chance. She rammed her head into Quartz's hindquarters and grabbed her hind-leg. There were two sickening snaps, and Quartz fell.

Cedar struggled to see around Moss at the noise, scared that the sound had been Quartz's neck. She saw only a blur as her opponent slashed at her face and injured her left eye to an unknown extent.

Quote: "Quartz!" Nebrivo howled. His pains forgotten, he lunged for her, jaws open to aim at Atra. "Atra!" he snarled, preparing to snap. But he felt himself fall short, and he instead landed not far from them. "ATRA!" he roared again, infuriated. He could barely see, but he knew Quartz was failing.

(Ignore this.)

(Ignore m last post.)

"ATRA!!!" Nebrivo roared for the third time, but he could not jump. He couldn't move. His front leg had broken in his fall and how the pain stopped him, like an unearthly barrier between him and his love.

Quick as a snake, Faedon leaped backwards swiftly. Her lithe, wiry build gave her surprising speed, and she landed lightly back on the ground. She raced around Killian, and placed herself in front of Phoenix, snarling at Killian madly.

Killian whirled around, keeping Faedon in view of his silvery eyes. His jaws parted in a creepy wolfish smile, as he advanced toward her. By this time Phoenix had come to, and, while keeping his eyes partly closed, had sized up the situation. Killian was quite close to Faedon now, crouched, and then lunged. Phoenix leaped up at him, and met the attack, snarling.

Cody didn't even have a response. He just stood there in disbelief, with a mixture of anger and heartbreak whirling around him. "I don't believe you," he breathed. He loved Willow... he loved her more than life itself. But she was a spy... she'd lied to get in... she'd lied about her past... every word, every breath she'd spoken to him had been a lie. How did he know that this wasn't just another lie of hers? Rage and sorrow unlike most wolves would ever have to face in their lifetime bubbled up like lava and rose from deep within his heart. "You lied to Stonepack. You lied to Senkah, the alpha who saved me from death when I was a pup... who saved me from a traitor like you." His mind flashed back to a memory of his mother, who had died in battle. Although Cody's expression was furious and vengeful, his voice was broken from the sorrow that had torn his heart in two. "You lied to me. A wolf who loved you more than life itself."

"SHUT UP!"

A screech split the air like a knife as Akira surged across the battlefield and bowled Cody over. Cody didn't even have time to react; the daughter of the alphas of Darkpack clamped her jaws down on his hind leg, and swung him into a tree by the edge of the densite. White light flashed in Cody's vision for a split second as his head slammed into the trunk of the tree, and a searing pain shot through his skull. It was enough to leave him lying on a heap on the ground, gasping for air... but it didn't hold a candle to the pain he felt in his heart.

Go ahead and kill me, Akira.

( So. Darn. Deep. Ain't playin' around, either. )

Willow had begun to say that she had regretted every minute of the mission and that she wanted to make things right, but it was a lie. She didn't regret every minute of the mission; in fact, she had relished the first few months of making Darkpack stronger, until she had realized how deep in love with Cody she was, until she had realized how much world was outside Darkpack, and how much she wanted to experience it.

She could have. She could have gotten away before the battle started. Ran away, as far away from these wretched packs as she could get. But, yet... something had stopped her from making even one paw step.

Stonepack.

They had been so kind to her, offering hospitality when she had acted like a poor Darkpack refugee when she was actually a spy. Realization had dawned on her that day when Cody and her had gone deep into the world. She had seen the endless prairie and the mountains that touched the very heavens themselves. Darkpack was simply mucky holes in the earth that leaked when it rained and a measly parasite-infested spot of land full of scrubby plants and a hoard of deceiving, dirty wolves.

And she had been one of them.

As Akira flung Cody into the tree, everything was in slow motion. She could feel the white light flash before her own eyes, blinding her until she found herself at Cody's side.

"Please live... I need you."

Cody staggered to his paws, his legs quivering like leaves in the wind. When he heard Willow's voice, it almost made his heart soar... Almost. Cody's gray eyes stared into the depths of Willow's... and slowly hardened. She was a traitor. "No." His voice was cut from the mountains themselves. "No, you don't need me, Willow. You never needed me before." And with that, he surged back into the battlefield, disappearing into the hoards of fighting wolves.

"No... no... I was all wrong. ALL WRONG!!!" she screeched, her voice cracking on the tip of the last word. She didn't tell herself to sprint after him; one minute she was still, fighting her grief, and the next second she was running faster than she ever thought possible. She ignored the fact that she had an opponent to fight; if she could make things right with Cody, she'd be alright with him killing her and even rest easy.

A dark blue-gray leg shot out in front of her before she got far. The cruel blue gaze of Kodiak bore down into Willow's heart. "You're not going anywhere, traitor."

Willow felt the leg push her back before she she stumbled, and Kodiak's cruel blue gaze struck her heart like a million knives as she struggled to regain her footing. It wasn't Kodiak himself she was scared of; no, it was never being able to make things right with Cody.

"I picked a side, Kodiak," she began coolly, "many moons ago. Stonepack."

"Then that just gives me another excuse." Kodiak's muzzle shot down for her throat. "You tried to run from your past, Willow, and that's where you screwed up."
[/quote]Willow gave a choked gargle as Kodiak's muzzle gripped her throat. It wasn't enough to kill her, but enough to draw blood; a thin, silvery ribbon of it. Yanking her throat away, she jabbed a paw into his chest where the heart was unprotected.
