Farther across the clearing Ebony, Ash and Sierra were locked in a furious battle. Even though it was one blind she-wolf and an old wolf against him, the young Darkpack beta was having a difficult time making any progress. Ash would dive in to attack, and at the right moment, while listening to all the scuffles, Sierra would lunge at Ebony and cut long gashes down his sides. Ebony howled in pain and rage and would make an angry attack, which would result in more painful scratches, from Ash.

Nebrivo could feel her claws rake down his face, and he felt himself redirected to the ground. He hit it face first and felt his neck pop. Nebrivo was sluggish as he turned to face her, but instead collapsed. He was bleeding from numerous places and crying. He didn't care anymore. He stared angrily up at Atra. "Curse you," he said angrily.
"This is for Darkpack, leaders of all lands!" Atra snarled. She lifted her paws again and brought them down on his neck in unison, flinging the weight of her body down him in a crushing strike.

Quote: Nebrivo snarled but that quickly turned to a choke as his neck snapped, but only mostly. And he didn't die, instead going numb, his head feeling unattached to his body. All he could feel was the sting of the scratches on his neck. Atra's paws were still on his neck and he began to gag. Maneuvering his jaws the best e could, he snapped them shut on Atra in a last desperate bite.

( DarkPack beta? I guess Jade and Ebony are mates then or something? Jade's Beta female )

Atra took a delicate step back, his bite tearing off only fur. She grabbed him around the throat to make sure there was no chance of him surviving and squeezed.

Cody staggered to his paws, his legs quivering like leaves in the wind. When he heard Willow's voice, it almost made his heart soar... Almost. Cody's gray eyes stared into the depths of Willow's... and slowly hardened. She was a traitor. "No." His voice was cut from the mountains themselves. "No, you don't need me, Willow. You never needed me before." And with that, he surged back into the battlefield, disappearing into the hoards of fighting wolves.
"No... no... I was all wrong. ALL WRONG!!!" she screeched, her voice cracking on the tip of the last word. She didn't tell herself to sprint after him; one minute she was still, fighting her grief, and the next second she was running faster than she ever thought possible. She ignored the fact that she had an opponent to fight; if she could make things right with Cody, she'd be alright with him killing her and even rest easy.

A dark blue-gray leg shot out in front of her before she got far. The cruel blue gaze of Kodiak bore down into Willow's heart. "You're not going anywhere, traitor." Willow felt the leg push her back before she she stumbled, and Kodiak's cruel blue gaze struck her heart like a million knives as she struggled to regain her footing. It wasn't Kodiak himself she was scared of; no, it was never being able to make things right with Cody.

"I picked a side, Kodiak," she began coolly, "many moons ago. Stonepack."

"Then that just gives me another excuse." Kodiak's muzzle shot down for her throat. "You tried to run from your past, Willow, and that's where you screwed up." Willow gave a choked gargle as Kodiak's muzzle gripped her throat. It wasn't enough to kill her, but enough to draw blood; a thin, silvery ribbon of it. Yanking her throat away, she jabbed a paw into his chest where the heart was unprotected.

Kodiak noticably grimaced and he jerked back a little bit out of instinct. The grimace turned into a snarl of pure hatred, and his eyes burned into Willow's pelt like the hottest flames of a fire. He bit down onto her throat harder and harder, squeezing her windpipe.

Cody didn't even have a response. He just stood there in disbelief, with a mixture of anger and heartbreak whirling around him. "I don't believe you," he breathed. He loved Willow... he loved her more than life itself. But she was a spy... she'd lied to get in... she'd lied about her past... every word, every breath she'd spoken to him had been a lie. How did he know that this wasn't just another lie of hers? Rage and sorrow unlike most wolves would ever have to face in their lifetime bubbled up like lava and rose from deep within his heart. "You lied to Stonepack. You lied to Senkah, the alpha who saved me from death when I was a pup... who saved me from a traitor like you." His mind flashed back to a memory of his mother, who had died in battle. Although Cody's expression was furious and vengeful, his voice was broken from the sorrow that had torn his heart in two. "You lied to me. A wolf who loved you more than life itself."

"SHUT UP!"

A screech split the air like a knife as Akira surged across the battlefield and bowled Cody over. Cody didn't even have time to react; the daughter of the alphas of Darkpack clamped her jaws down on his hind leg, and swung him into a tree by the edge of the densite. White light flashed in Cody's vision for a split second as his head slammed into the trunk of the tree, and a searing pain shot through his skull. It was enough to leave him lying on a heap on the ground, gasping for air... but it didn't hold a candle to the pain he felt in his heart.

Go ahead and kill me, Akira.

( So. Darn. Deep. Ain't playin' around, either. )

Willow had begun to say that she had regretted every minute of the mission and that she wanted to make things right, but it was a lie. She didn't regret every minute of the mission; in fact, she had relished the first few months of making Darkpack stronger, until she had realized how deep in love with Cody she was, until she had realized how much world was outside Darkpack, and how much she wanted to experience it.

She could have. She could have gotten away before the battle started. Ran away, as far away from these wretched packs as she could get. But, yet... something had stopped her from making even one paw step.

Stonepack.

They had been so kind to her, offering hospitality when she had acted like a poor Darkpack refugee when she was actually a spy. Realization had dawned on her that day when Cody and her had gone deep into the world. She had seen the endless prairie and the mountains that touched the very heavens themselves. Darkpack was simply mucky holes in the earth that leaked when it rained and a measly parasite-infested spot of land full of scrubby plants and a hoard of deceiving, dirty wolves.

And she had been one of them.

As Akira flung Cody into the tree, everything was in slow motion. She could feel the white light flash before her own eyes, blinding her until she found herself at Cody's side.

"Please live... I need you."
