"I know." Scarlet sighed, smiling. Her eyes wandered to a tiny brown male pup with chocolate eyes. "He reminds me of Nike." she said softly.Oh boy," Wind sighed good-naturedly, watching May and Maple wrestle. He chuckled, leaning over to Scarlet. "Not so many moons ago, that was us.
Wind smiled, licking the pup's forehead.
The tiny pups squealed, pawing at his father's tongue. His vision was blurry, even though his eyes were open, so he kept toppling over.
Wind chuckled, nudging his son back to his paws. "What should we call him?" he asked Scarlet, glancing at May and Maple. He was still in awe that these were his very own pups.
"I'm not sure.. something strong though. He's going to be great. I've already decided that." Scarlet winked, rolling so her belly was more exposed.
Wind smirked. "Hmm..." he gazed at his pup intently. "Maybe... Sorin?" he suggested.
"Oh I like that." Scarlet replied, nuzzling her son.
Wind frowned as he looked over at one of the pups. It had barely moved since the birth, and Wind was growing increasingly worried.
Scarlet caught his expression. "What's wrong?" she asked softly, looking at her pups again.
"That one," Wind frowned, looking at the sickly pup. "It... hasn't moved."
Scarlet's face paled. "What?" she whispered, her voice shaking.
"It's breathing... but it's just..." Wind let out a low whine, nudging the pup gently.
Scarlet's face turned deathly white. "No.... no Wind.... please..." she whimpered, staring in horror at his face. She couldn't bear to look at her pup.
Wind sighed sadly, his ears shooting up in alarm as he heard a deafening *BANG*, along with Sitka's warning. He remembered it from his pup-hood. He had very little memories of his father, Hades, but he remembered his death. Vividly. "Scarlet!" He shouted, "we have to get out of here!" He immediately dove for May and Maple, who were frozen in fear from the bang.
Outside, North was barking orders. "Pups first!" Stone and his sister scrambled by, in a panic.
"Wind!!! Get help!!!!" Scarlet screeched, grabbing two pups. The three who were left scrambled under their mother, mewling in fright. Nike thundered into the den, snatched the three pups and looked into Wind's eyes. "Get them to safety!" he bellowed, fear leaping in his eyes.
Wind hadn't even been around to completely register Nike's sentence; he was already bolting away with May and Maple, who were crying. Senkah was leading the pack to a nearby cave for temporary safety, until the whole pack had assembled.
Summer dashed after him, and leaped into the cave. She looked at her mate in shock, gulping air and feeling her heart pound in her chest.
