Wind licked each of the pups' foreheads. "Daddy loves each of you very much," he murmured to them. His eyes glistened with tears at the thought of possibly never seeing his mate or pups again. He forced them away. "I'll be back. I promise." He gave Scarlet one last nuzzle, before running out after North.

Gunshots echoed across the valley. A storm was coming in, and the wind carried the scent of rain. "Can you smell anything?" North barked.

Wind had caught a scent trail by Riverpack. "I think so! Over here!"

"I-I'm fine," she gasped. "Where are the pups?"

"I hid them, in the mountians, in a cave beneath a pine." He said quickly. His ears shot up, he heard a voice. "Go, Sitka, Go hide with the pups." he turned licking her cheek. "I love you." He called as he raced towards the sounds.
