Runner duck adult height

Amiga, females are going to be smaller. I can go out and get readings for my Metzer girls. They seem shorter too than my show breeder females. Now I'm interested. When I get back from work, gonna have to go back out there with my little evil stick

Priss, Apollo is gorgeous, but you haven't seen Jack standing up tall, only swimming on the pond... hrmm... I have one of the two of them on the pond, you've probably seen it before

Here they are. Apollo has the green bill (look yellow in the pic) and is behind Jack who has the black bill

They are goin back to the nice man who bred them on Friday cos me and the husband are going to California for a couple of weeks to visit my sister. He said he would be happy to look after them at our place or have them at his place but that there would be boy ducks at his place. I told him his place and that my girls will be all over em like cheap suits!

i have hatchery utility quality runners (non show quality) and at their tallest most upright position, they are about 21-24 inches tall. I imagine that show runners are a bit taller.

Thanks, Kristen, that's more good information!

It affirms that I am in the ballpark thinking 30 inches would be max. I think.

"abundant amount" . . . hmmmm.

(tangent alert)

This reminds me of a little exercise I participated in at work years ago. Has anyone ever done this? I think it's fun! It is a quiz and the more people who take it together, the more fun it is. Everyone needs to come up with their own answers before sharing.

How many is a few?
How many is many?
What percentage range is about a half?
What percentage range is about three quarters?

(and, I kid you not - these were real questions on the quiz)

How often is never?
How often is always?
How often is sometimes?

What amazed me (perhaps I should be embarrassed about that), is how many very different answers we all had!

(return to topic)

Well, in Storey's Guide to Raising ducks Mr. Holderread states there is no need to have a duck house taller than 3 feet. But when I came across the 34" height number, I reckoned that 3 feet would not be enough if I were using deep litter, and so my quest for some real numbers began. That's when I came across 24", then 14". Then I knew I needed to ask a runner duck person.

Cannot thank you all enough!

BTW, I want to keep the Duck Inn on the low side, so it will blend in with the landscape. I am not a tall person, so I am not concerned about height. A hinged roof will help with cleanouts, as will a side access door. (another tangent - oops

you want to be able to get in there ... trust me. especially when you're adding new litter and cleaning out old litter.

holderread's transports are 32' because he doesn't want runners to ever get hunched. i have seen my jump when startled. he says a long time ago he ended up at a show with a runner who's neck got a crook in it from the transport box (before he started making the bigger ones). he said that he's never had a runner neck stay that way, but he'd rather be safe than sorry.
