*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Runners show an upright posture as soon they stand up for the first time ( although it is not very cleary visible when they are still shaped like cotton balls).
So if your bird never shows an upright posture, you have been scammed.
What does your duck look like? Is she standing completely horizontal, or half-upright like a Welsh Harlequin?
If you post a picture of your duck, the community here might tell you more about her.

Hello All, first time here. First time duck owner!

Some how I talked myself into two beautiful drakes.
Do I need to have females?
Handsome fellas! Just a suggestion but if you introduce only one female you stand the chance of her being injured by the males "over use" of her. The usual rule of thumb I have gotten from most duck owners (and works well for me with 1 male to 14 females) is that there should be 1 male to 3-4 females.

As a first time duck owner I've been trying to decipher the "quacks" to decide what sex our new runners are. I was pretty sure we had 3 girls and one boy...

Tonight I heard them all - 3 clear quackers and the drake finally did a proper whispering noise! We weren't convinced he was a drake for a whole because he was the smallest of all the ducks, but in the last few days he has shot up and suddenly he's the tallest of all of them!

Just the ratio we were hoping for! Very pleased :)

I will try to get pictures of her up soon. She stand up Taller than other ducks for sure but she just doesn't seem to stand straight up. Kinda hard to go down there right now my husband does most of the work cause the birds leave him alone. I have a Chinese male goose that charges me everytime I go down to see them. Then a couple weeks ago my Polish Rooster started doing the same thing he tries to attack me.

That's no good! You need to assert dominance over those guys, it's your place after all... not theirs.
Here is a very helpful thread on how to do it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/561849/geese-training#post_7245388

If you do it right and consistently, they will learn and their behavior towards you should change completely.

Thank you tracylovesducks I will look at the link I have been trying to get them to stop I'm stern and tell them no and don't run. I grab the goose by his neck not hard just to get him to hold still but he always comes back for more

I have 4! Love them all!
