*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

My little runner duckling from Metzer is having a hard time. Her left foot stays curled and she can't walk well. She's been like that since she arrived, but I had hoped with a little time and vitamins that she might straighten it out herself. She's my fiancé's favorite, and he named her Duckasaurus. He read about straightening curled duckling feet with "boots" on this website, and he fashioned a little boot from a piece of cardboard, a bandaid and some medical tape. I don't know if it will be too late, since she's already four days old. There's not much else I can think to do, other than adding some Brewers yeast to their water, which I am about to head into town and buy. I guess we just wait and see.

Put Brewers yeast on their food or nutritional yeast. I find nutritional yeast in the bulk foods section at my local grocery store or speciality foods store. Boots will also help and are pretty simple to make. It should only take a few days. Sorry you are having these problems. I've been really happy with mine from Metzer.

I literally just bought Brewers yeast from GNC. I'm actually still in the parking lot, lol. I have a couple more errands to run in town, but will add it to the water as soon as I get back home. Any idea how much I should add? Is there a specific ratio or does it matter? I think Miss Lydia told me a while back but I can't remember. I'll have to go through my old posts, haha.

Sprinkle about a teaspoon on their food. maybe some on here will chime in on an exact amount. It will make their water nasty if put in there, just put it on their food.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to take the boot off here in an hour or so and see how it's looking, and see if it needs refitted. I put the Brewers yeast in their food, and the runner started gobbling it up. I don't know if it will help, but it certainly won't hurt. The two WH ducklings seem to be picking on her a bit, something I'll have to keep my eye on.

Here is Duckasaurus with her boot. We put her little friend Michelle in there with her so she wouldn't be lonely.

We let them have their first swim a little earlier than planned, so the bandaid could soften and come off easier. We made sure to dry them off afterward.

Her foot has straightened put a lot! She stands up much better and more often now too. We are going to keep the boot off for now, but will keep a close eye on her and put it back on if needed.

Now those look like quite relaxed ducks. I hope mine turn out that calm. I looked at your photos. I know this is a Runner thread but I wondered if one of your ducks is a mallard.

Thanks so much for the input. I'll check out a couple of the other places but they will just be pets so perfection is not an issue. My friend and I haven't placed our order yet but I am already looking forward to have a few more quackers. I can't get from my office to the house without them alerting my hubby. They do have a favorite snack but I feel rather guilty catching them instead of leaving them where they are.
