*~*Runner Duck Club*~*

Our shed is too far out from the house and our internet connection won't reach that far. So no live feed :( but my husband got me a game camera that we will put out there and I can put the memory card in my computer and check it out

A friend with a diamond bit on a dremel helped me blow out a couple shells! The littler one is the very first egg I found, and I wanted to be extra certain it would stay intact, so we practiced on some of his chickens' eggs first. He was shocked how much thicker duck eggshells were!

this is my 2 buff O's side by side

I have 2 f/w runners sitting on eggs, ONE pipped this morning and should be zipping this moment, as i am typing.
my Q is: will the other broody ducks kill each others ducklings? they are all in the same duck house?
I also have 5 other ducks that sleep in the same duck house with these 6 broody ducks.
my drakes are in a different pen and different sleeping quarters.

From anything I have read, it is entirely up to the ducks - I feel one needs to have an idea for how to manage whatever the ducks end up doing. Wish I could give you a better prediction.

Some broody ducks are just fine, some are not.... I don't know how to know ahead of time.

@amiga thank you. i will keep an eye on them. i have fensing on hand, kiddie pools, dividers, etc. i could set up quickly if there is any fighting/killing going on.
someone told me the other day that different breed of duck will kill the other breeds ducklings. since i have the blue runner and the buff side by side, i was wondering about those two. to me, if they are side by side, i would think (?) they would protect and mother each others ducklings??? just a thought.

Jee, I just cannot say. @Miss Lydia had to rescue Opie from his own mother!
I did Amiga. She was an awesome broody but freaked out when the eggs began to hatch. They can be unpredictable. My Muscovy's would never brood together they do not want any other duck around them when they are brooding so I keep my mamas and ducklings separate from the other ducks for at least 3 weeks I know my ducks and how they are. Yours maybe entirely different @CyndiD I'd keep a very close eye on them and the ducklings when they begin to hatch.
