I've posted on the emergency thread, but... Help! Duck has a hard time breathing...

Her bill is swollen. The swellings are hard. One side (shown) is more swollen than the other. The sides of her head go in and out because she finds it hard to draw breath through her "nose".

If I force her mouth open, she breathes without any problems, since only her "nose" is partially blocked.

There is no discharge of any kind. She is quite healthy otherwise.

Any ideas as to what is wrong and what needs to be done to help her?
I don't know what to do in this situation...will try to find someone to help @Amiga @Ravynscroft @casportpony

Vet would be best if you can take her to one... my guess would be a sinus infection or something got in her nares and has an infection from that... infection (pus) in poultry is most often hard, not liquidy, and needs to be removed as well as have antibiotics to heal...

Thank you for your suggestions, Ravynscroft and Miss Lydia. She will be going to the vet today. I didn't know infection could be hard instead of pus. That's probably what she has. The inside of her mouth looks just fine. Her nostril passages do seem to have narrowed due to the swelling.

Update on Cinnamon. The vet says the swelling contains infection. She did a biopsy and says that the hard lump contains white blood cells and bacteria (and tissues). (And no cancer cells - yay!). She prescribed SZM-TMP as an antibiotic to be taken by mouth and Ofloxacin ophthalmic solution to be dribbled one drop into each nostril, each twice a day. She says the prognosis is good.

That is great to hear! :ya :hugs
Not that she has infection though, but great that you got her in and it is treatable!

How to runners do in the cold?
Its about 15 degrees here this morning, and our ducks are allowed to roam all day and night. I checked on them this morning and my blue runner was shivering! They have a big house with lots of straw, but they seem to not want to go in it. Any Advice?
