These are my 3 duckies, they are about 3 weeks old. I am new to ducks. But my goal is the get eggs and hopefully breed. Any helpful tips or suggestions? Good treats or fun things to keep them busy/have fun?
Your Runners are adorable. as for keeping them busy boy just give them plenty of space they'll keep the property free of any bugs etc. lol Mine must go up and down the hill in the back of our property at least 50 times a day they don't get bored. Treats well dried meal worms are on the top of the list here. Tomatoes chopped romaine lettuce chopped water melon mine love the 6 way scratch I found it has grains but no soy or corn there is a treat list on here I'll see if I can get it for you.
What cute runners! I want to hold them and pet them.
- Keep an eye on niacin (I know you probably know, but 3 weeks is when they need the most of it, so if their feed doesn't have enough, now is the time to make sure you supplement.)
- When their wings begin getting feathers, drop the protein content for 2-3 weeks till the wings are fully feathered to avoid angel wing. Then you can resume the protein content of your choice. Protein content can be dropped by feeding more greens, more scratch grains, and fewer meal worms (just for those two weeks).
- Watch out for wet straw. I lost my favorite duck to aspergillosis, a mold that grows in wet straw. It can infect breathing passages and lungs. Straw can look great on top, but the bottom can begin to decompose, and ducks will drill down to the bottom. I suggest checking the bottom frequently and changing it if the bottom is wet (don't wait for mold to appear).
