Runner Duck labored/heavy breathing

OK, so you started her on the Baytril Friday night? Does that mean she’s only getting one dose of day? I’ve just never heard of that. I always read that it’s given twice a day.
Just once a day. It’s tablet form, not sure if that makes a difference.

It’s in the form of a 68mg tablet that is then broken up into quarters and given once a day.

So you give her one quarter of a 68 mg tablet once a day , am I right?
Please forgive me for asking so many questions. I’m trying to get all this information together. I am planning on writing an article about my experience with two FWRunner ducks who have now both died from aspergillosis. If you don’t mind, I may use some of the information that you are sharing in my article as far as what medications were given what tests were done what the symptoms were and what the dosages were and other treatments.

Correct, but that amount was decided based on her weight. So it wouldn’t be a universal thing

I’m sorry to hear about the passing ☹️ that’s terrible.

As for the article, I don’t mind if info is shared. Although I suppose it would depend on the context. I wouldn’t want it to be made to sound like a possible treatment plan for asper since I don’t know if that’s what this is… would just hate to lead someone down the wrong path!

Thankyou for the info!

She weighs 2.2 pounds. Not sure what her weight was before this. We don’t weigh our birds

I don’t have a plan yet for what we’re going to do after the antibiotics are done. She has 8 doses. She got her third dose last night.

In my opinion she is showing a little improvement. Her only symptom was/is the breathing fast/hard, which does seem to be improving. So I don’t have a whole lot to go on in terms of improvement. But I can say with confidence she is not declining.

I’m not going to tube feed unless it’s absolutely necessary. I’ve never done it, have only watched videos. And the amount of stress that would cause her is not worth it to me at this time since she is still eating mealworms & I haven’t seen how she behaves back in her normal environment or with another duck around

I will get some probiotics if I don’t already! I’m pretty sure I have some but I’ll need to check when I get home
I'm going to buck the trend and encourage you to continue following your vet's orders. Hold off on using silver, essential oils, etc. Your duck needs fresh air and time to recover now.

I’ll unplug the diffuser! Honestly I don’t think it was really putting off much scent anyways 😅 I could barely smell it with my face right next to it

I’m hoping to get her transitioned back outside within the next few days since it’ll be in the 30°F range (it’s been bouncing between the negatives and 10s).

But yes plan is to continue with what the vet said!
The soonest the silver would be here is 7 days, so it wouldn’t do me any use 😵‍💫

Thankyou! I appreciate the encouragement!

Ooohh just in case I was misinterpreted I am not telling you not to listen to your vet and I’m not telling you that your duck has aspergillosis because honestly nobody can know that unless you get the test done.
I’m just following what’s going on and keeping track of it just in case the same thing happens that happened with mine because so far the symptoms were the same. It’s the same kind of duck and we both use straw plus you’re doing basically the same things that I did. But we will not be able to know how this turns out until it turns out, right?
My hope and prayer for you and your duck is that it’s not something like asper and that your duck will do very well on the antibiotic that will be wonderful

Is your vet an Avian vet
Yes
It’s not an Avian specific vet clinic though, as they have other vets there that just deal with “regular” pets like dogs and cats. Sorry idk if any of this makes sense. I can understand why they’d do an ‘all in one’ clinic since we kinda live in the middle of nowhere haha but idk if that’s common practice.

Totally getchya! All in all it’s useful info to have, I didn’t really know anything about respiratory issues until this all started.

Awesome and I hope you understand I’m not telling you to start using the nebulizer oxineAH treatment unless you did have a diagnosis. I was just explaining how it’s done because oxine AH was mentioned in the thread. I am still grieving my Ducks recent death, and therefore may say things that sound too strong therefore, I am not going to reply to this thread anymore. If you do want to talk to me, please direct message me. I will try to answer any questions you have as best as I can based on my experience.
