Runner Ducks

Sandra, I love the idea of the clapping will try that tonight, have three that dont want to go in at all each night.

dragonlili it is the mating call for ducks it seems. I was in shock how many times my pekin hen was head bobbing to the Drake. My hens seem to do the head bobbing.

One of my female runners is after a pekin drake, she follows him every where bobbing her head.

Right not seems to be a even match between drakes and hens.

I'll have to try the clapping too.

The drakes go in easily, but the ducks will often fake-left just as everyone goes in and hide in the tall mint shrubs. I'm onto them, but a friend put them up a few days ago. I woke up in the morning and looked out to check on them and found my favorite duck walking around OUTside the coop, drinking water, waiting for her buddies. Her egg was just outside the door.

I'm glad she was ok!

LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY!

Another thing that helps is a "running fence" where the ramp up to the coop is. It used to separate the chicken yard from the duck yard.

When I took it down, they'd just run past it and walk back a forth a zillion times before getting in. Once the "running fence" was back in, it was like...oh fence...must turn....oh look ramp in front of me....must go up!

They're a crack up!
