Runner ducks

I was super excited to get the blue eggs- they are just beautiful. Now they seem white to me. (?) IDK. I guess I'll just have to watch and see what she gives me next week. ... And she is only laying once every 2-3 days.

Your eggs are lovely too!
Thanks Holly. Maybe she will do like Georgette and just make light tan ones. Keep me posted cause' I thought it was strange when my girl stopped making the light green ones. (?) IDK either!

Thinking on that topic, last year I'd adopted a sort-of-abandoned adult Runner. Her very 1st night here shed laid me a blue egg, but only once. Every egg thereafter was more tan... I wonder if it was stress related? Hmmmm. Have to spend some time reading I guess.

This is chickens, but I'm wondering if the process is the same. http://scratchcradle.wordpress.com/2012/07/01/gms1-genetics-of-egg-color/

Here's a pic of one of the greener-hued eggs up close, you can see that some of the coloring did scratch off... I think the middle egg in this pic is actually the same as in the far right lower position in the above pic. Interesting for sure. More reading to do!

Great link, I think that is where I may have read about the color before. I tried to scratch one of my "light green"

eggs and nothing came off but here's the thing, mine are at least a month old and maybe when they are fresh the color will come off cause I can see some scratches on the eggs. Dottie stopped laying when her sister Francine went broody. She has no idea (I think) that Francine passed away. I may never see another light green egg again!

I am so sad about Francine still. I was reading that the color gene should come from the drake... So maybe in the future

I have 3 runner ducks that I just adore. This thread makes me a little sad because we had one that just passed last week that was my daughters baby. Even showered with her. He was our "special needs duck" because his beak grew in crooked. He was the sweetest duck ever. This is a collage I made for her after his passing. RIP Patches!

Great big hugs to you and your family, in the lower left pic I can see your daughter was smitten with him from the start.
