4 months later and it’s finally finished…for now. Adding more roosting boards, two swings, and a thing to hang pecking treats off of. That was a lot more than I expected.
Here’s what I learned/want to do:
1) I hate painting
2) if I had to do it again I’d put the window openers somehow on the outside.
3) Put a board at the inside of the door frame to keep the hens from hopping out but more importantly to keep bedding in.
4) I need a hanging waterer.
5) windows in one side of the coop are great, but cross flow ventilation in the heat is where it’s at. I have a lot of ventilation up too, which is good, but even with the windows open on a hot day, the air can feel a bit stagnant. I’ll add another window in the side next year or maybe cut in a solar attic fan to draw hot air out. (Overkill but fun).
6) a gutter and rain barrel would be good. Mostly to protect the siding.
Thanks!
