Well... it’s bright because of the sun, but at night the sun is replaced by the moon and it becomes all covered with shadows, and the sky becomes dotted with the spirits of our warrior ancestors. There are kits, queens, warriors, elders, a leader, and a deputy. The leader is your father, Bramblestar, and I’m the deputy.

She smiled, sensing his pride. Usually the deputy can’t remain deputy if they become a mother, but our medicine cat, Feathersky, received a sign from StarClan that there could be an exception for me. Last time I had kits, at least. I’m not sure about this time.

They wouldn’t replace me permanently. Just someone to take over for me while I raised you. If they were going to, I think they’d have done it when I first moved to the nursery, though.
