"Hush!" Rainbird scolded. "We don't need another dead cat on our hands, especially a kit! Do you know what kind of stress this would put on Mom if she heard you saying these things?"“I don’t care!” he snarled. “She’ll pay for this.”

“I’m not,” she answered simply. “But I do have something to say. A few moons ago, Larksong gave me a message to deliver to you. I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell you, and now seems as good a time as any.”Blackblood felt wary as he went over to her. "If you're going to lecture me, don't waste your breath."
“But she tried to kill her!” He lowered his voice as Lilyflight stirred. “I won’t die.”"Hush!" Rainbird scolded. "We don't need another dead cat on our hands, especially a kit! Do you know what kind of stress this would put on Mom if she heard you saying these things?"
"Well?" He sat down, his heart brimming with hope at the sound of her name“I’m not,” she answered simply. “But I do have something to say. A few moons ago, Larksong gave me a message to deliver to you. I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell you, and now seems as good a time as any.”
“But she tried to kill her!” He lowered his voice as Lilyflight stirred. “I won’t die.”
“She wants to me to tell you that she loves you. You have three kits: Ashkit, your daughter, and Shadekit and Hailkit, your sons.” She briefly described what each kit looked like. “They desperately want to meet you, but if you keep going on this path, they won’t be able to.” She shook her head sadly."Well?" He sat down, his heart brimming with hope at the sound of her name
"You're doing no such thing! Don't make Hazelkit risk her life by rescuing you, too."
His tail lashed. "Ashkit, Shadkit, Hailkit." He repeated, almost in a trance. "I have three kits..."“She wants to me to tell you that she loves you. He hissed again, louder this time, but said nothing.
“Larksong wants to appear to you,” she continued, almost desperately, “but she can’t because of the path you’re on.”His tail lashed. "Ashkit, Shadkit, Hailkit." He repeated, almost in a trance. "I have three kits..."
"Promise me you won't go to the Dark Forest."
"My path? What does that mean?"“Larksong wants to appear to you,” she continued, almost desperately, “but she can’t because of the path you’re on.”
“Doesn’t matter, does it?” he muttered mutinously. “I’ve already been. More than once. Darksky already hates me.”
“It means that if you continue like this... you’ll end up in the Dark Forest,” she choked. “Larksong wants to help you so much, but she can’t. She can’t reach you because of this.”"My path? What does that mean?"
Rainbird growled. "You're not going to fight Darksky. I don't want any of my siblings to die if I can help it."
"I will never see my kits?"“It means that if you continue like this... you’ll end up in the Dark Forest,” she choked. “Larksong wants to help you so much, but she can’t. She can’t reach you because of this.”
He didn’t say anything. His sadness and worry had melted away, to be replaced with fierce anger filling him like fire.
She shook her head."I will never see my kits?"
"Are you listening?"
