She waved her bushy tail. "We're supposed to be apprentices already. Maybe if we do this, Bramblestar will finally take notice of us and do our ceremony. Maybe we can bring back a bunch of prey and impress him, then he'll have to make us apprentices!"

“How about something that doesn’t involve breaking rules?” Brackenkit challenged.

“I don’t know...” Aspenkit said hesitantly. “It kind of sounds like fun, but I don’t want to get held back from my apprentice ceremony.”

Hazelkit's tail waved and she turned her back on Brackenkit. "Suit yourself, but I'm not going to wait for other cats to do things for me. Sometimes you have to do things yourself and take matters into your own paws to get what you want." She mewed with a hint of a growl and stalked off, out the gorse tunnel and into the woods.

Lionkit was torn, He didn't know who to stay with. He didn't want to let her go into the forest alone, and it might get Bramblestar to realize that they should be apprentices, but at the same time, what if it did hold them back instead of pushing them forward? His eyes widened with indecision

Finally, he walked out the tunnel after her with a wave of his tail. When he was out, he looked around with big eyes. The forest was so huge!

Hazelkit saw Lionkit join her and she let out a purr of relief. "Together," She told him, "We'll get Bramblestar to notice us and make us apprentices!"

Aspenkit and Brackenkit stayed behind, but they shuffled nervously and kept their ears pricked.
