“Will Flykit be okay?” she asked quietly, finally managing to get the words out. “She can never be a warrior, I know, but what can she do? She’s so smart, it’s be a waste for her to live as an elder all her life! This is my fault...”

"Flykit is strong and smart. She will go far in life if presented the right opportunities. She doesn't need to be and Elder or a medicine cat. She can read lips, so if her mentor speaks clearly and slowly, she'll be able to make out enough words to understand what she is being told most of the time. If she gets a patient mentor that is willing to go through that struggle, then she can be a warrior."

“But will she be able to listen to commands in battles?” she asked desperately. “Or hear when someone is sneaking up on her? How can she be a warrior?” And why don’t I know this already? Am I really that bad of a mother?

He gave a small snort in amusement. "As you've already noticed, Flykit and Featherkit are much closer than most kits usually are. If they are allowed to stay side-by-side during patrols and different things like that, then they will be formidable. Feathkit will be their ears while Flykit can be the strength and the nose. Since her hearing is gone, she has a much stronger nose than most cats."

She nodded slowly, slightly comforted by his words. “But will Bramblestar even let her try?”
