"I-I don't know," she admitted, sitting down. "I don't know what to do with Blackpaw! I think I'm just a terrible mentor, because I can't handle him no matter what I try."

"That's a hard one. You probably know better then me. I think your doing you best," said Feathersky. "Of coarse I'm just an old medicine cat. what do I know?"

"But what if it's not enough?" she asked desperately, her eyes troubled. "The responsibilities of being a mentor are to raise and teach the young cat you were assigned, and I was barely more than an apprentice myself when I got him. I still am! But he's so difficult. He always makes smart remarks, never shows me any of his skills, and then complains when I try to teach him something he 'already knows'. Is it something I've done?"

Bramblefall put his tail around her shoulders to reassure her before saying "Don't worry, he is just a stubborn apprentice who is trying to make you think you are a bad mentor. He's getting in your head, don't let him. He will be punished accordingly. Put him on elder duty for two moons if you have to."

She sighed, taking comfort in Bramblefall. "I know... But I think it's working. How am I supposed to get anything done with him?"
