Hello, I recently got 3 more chickens. They were doing fine, enjoying their new coop, all to them selves. There is one the smallest, that I have been holding every day. Today when I went to get her I noticed she had a runny nose. The more I watched her, I noticed she was having a little bit of a hard time breathing and snot bubbles(lack of a better term) were coming out of her nose : ( I called my uncle who has been rasing chicks for at least 30 years, said she has a bit of a cold and to give her some penicillin in her water. Also to give her a few drops of the water mixture, into her mouth. Is that right? Do I need to do anything else? I might just be an over paranoid chicken mommy, but I don't want her to get worse!

Chickens don't get colds, in the sense of a simple virus that runs its course and is cured. It's unfortunately a good deal more complicated. I'd really suggest you read through this document -- especially if you are getting your chickens from your uncle.

Yeah that document didn't help me at all. And I do Not apreshate the comment "especially if you are getting your chickens from your uncle."

hi there tylan 50 is really great for respiratory problems! dose is large birds 1/4 CC small birds 1/2 cc once daily for 5 days. tylan packs quite a punch! many poultry owners use it including myself
.if the pennicillan isn't working well you can give tylan a try. best wishes hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your help! I will see if I can find some! : )
